Here's a quick summary of
my background:
- I'm an honours graduate in human movement
studies from the University of Queensland, currently teaching and doing my PhD at the Queensland University of Technology. I've also studied
yoga, nutrition, spirituality and human behaviour, and I'm a
qualified personal trainer.
- I'm a former Australian representative marathon
runner. In 1986 I set the Australian women's record for running
50 miles (80kms). It was as an athlete that I first became interested
in the relationship between our mind, body and spirit, which
I believe is central to our understanding of what it means to
be healthy.
- I've taught weight control, diet and exercise
subjects in universities, schools and TAFE colleges. I've also
run health and wellbeing programs for corporations and been
a guest speaker on women's health, fitness and sport issues
at national conferences.
- I'm a former senior manager in sport and
recreation with the Queensland Government. For several years
I represented Queensland on a national panel responsible for
developing strategies to encourage women and girls to be physically
active.
- I've also worked as a presenter for ABC radio
and TV, a columnist for The Australian, and in public relations
for the Australian Institute of Sport and the Tasmanian Health
Department.
Now in my 40s, I've developed fit and well to
support busy women in living balanced, healthy lives.
